Sulphuric Acid

CCS has a design capacity to produce 670,000 tons of sulphuric acid as a by-product for local and export markets.

Sulphuric Acid is a mineral acid composed of the elements Sulphur, Oxygen and Hydrogen. (H2SO4). It is a substance that is soluble in water and is synthesized in reactions that are highly exothermic.

At Chambishi Copper Smelter Ltd, the mixed copper smelt off-gas (Process Gas) from Isa Smelting and PS Converter Furnaces are used for Sulphuric Acid production.

Basically, the off-gas is purified and cooled down after entering the WHB (Waste Heat Boiler), then later sent to ESP (Electrostatic Precipitators) for Gas Cleaning. It is then channeled to Acid Plant for drying and adsorption (a conversion section) to produce 98% Sulphuric Acid under the Double Contact Process.
